Last year, for International Women’s Day, the Millenium Project association organized a video game tournament, or e-sports, at the youth center in La Fare-les-Oliviers. It was the first Millenium Gaming Cup. This year, the association has gone all out to offer a larger event, similar to a real convention.

On Saturday, March 7, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., the large hall of the Jean Bernard cultural center is open for a special day of video games, manga, and pop culture. The e-sports tournament is central, but there are also planned tournaments for board games, role-playing games, a cosplay contest, arcade machines and other retro consoles, and a K-Pop concert by a group from Salon-de-Provence. The association organized seven e-sports training sessions prior to the tournament to prepare participants for the big day.

“Instead of banning, we accompany,” explains Farid Benhamida, president of the association.

The goal of the Millenium Project in La Fare is to “meet a real need” for young people, and to bridge the gap between parents and children when it comes to video games.
