Visit of Pope Léon XIV to Djamaa El-Djazair: A Global Recognition of Religious and Civilizational Influence

The rectorate of Djamaa El-Djazair welcomed, in a statement on Monday, the visit of Pope Léon XIV to this edifice, stating that it constitutes a significant stop embodying the global recognition of its religious and civilizational influence and consecrating the international position it now holds.
The rectorate of Djamaa El-Djazair appreciated the choice of Algeria as the first stop of the pontiff’s African tour, highlighting that this visit represents “a profound symbolism” as an “opportunity to promote dialogue among civilizations and strengthen the bonds of understanding among peoples.”
Pope Léon XIV’s visit emphasizes “the historical depth of Algeria, which has never denied its civilizational past and human heritage, while remaining committed to its religion, Islam, its national authenticity, and its religious reference of moderation and middle way that it shares with the countries of North Africa and the Sahel, making it a liberating space carrying a balanced and moderate message,” added the same source.
Furthermore, Djamaa El-Djazair reiterated its “commitment to contribute to anchoring the culture of dialogue and rapprochement between cultures and civilizations, serving human dignity and promoting peace and coexistence values, in a world aspiring to progress, prosperity, and more serenity and stability.”
