In an exchange with his German counterpart Johann Wadephul, Lebanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Youssef Rajji emphasized Lebanon’s intention to clearly separate its file from the ongoing discussions between the United States and Iran. As direct negotiations with Israel loom, Rajji stated that the talks aim to achieve a ceasefire and demonstrate Beirut’s desire to pursue an independent approach. He highlighted that this process effectively distances the Lebanese issue from broader discussions involving Tehran and Washington.

This stance comes after talks in Pakistan, where Iran reportedly demanded a halt to Israeli strikes against the Hezbollah terrorist organization as a condition for an agreement with the United States. Beirut sees this request as an attempt to link various conflict fronts.

Rajji reaffirmed Lebanon’s exclusive authority to negotiate on its behalf, sending an implicit message to Iran and Hezbollah. This move aims to assert national sovereignty and emphasize official diplomacy in the country’s strategic decisions.
