It’s a joy as high as the political earthquake in Hungary. On Sunday, April 12, future Prime Minister Peter Magyar celebrated his triumphant victory. Alongside the Hungarian flag, his supporters displayed European flags. “Hungary will once again be a solid ally within the European Union and NATO. We will ensure the democratic functioning of our country. We will never allow anyone to enslave or betray free Hungary,” declares Peter Magyar, winner of the legislative election in Hungary.

After 16 years of Viktor Orbán’s rule, a Hungarian savors the change. “I feel like it’s also a regime change and I have every hope that we will become a member of Europe again, of the European Union, and break free from Putin’s pocket,” she says.

At Viktor Orbán’s headquarters, disappointment is written on all faces. The defeated Prime Minister acknowledges his defeat but promises to continue to play a role. “Even from opposition, we will serve our homeland and the Hungarian nation,” says Viktor Orbán, former Prime Minister of Hungary. Peter Magyar’s victory was celebrated on the streets of Budapest and hailed by European Union leaders.
