For over 10 years, Bigflo and Oli have been an essential duo in the French music scene. However, working closely with your brother presents some challenges. This Saturday, April 11, the Toulouse-born brothers were invited to talk on the “Variétés” show on RTL, hosted by Augustin Trapenard. This was an opportunity to reflect on their iconic duo, as Bigflo feels that they now portray too polished an image. “It’s our fault because we idealized our brotherly relationship a bit,” he explains. “And I believe that by doing that, we may have unintentionally hurt some people who listened to our songs and thought: ‘My brother and I are always arguing,’ etc. When in fact, we do that too.” So, the brothers have decided to be more transparent with their audience. “We might have accentuated the positive side of our duo too much. So, nothing has changed. It’s just that these realities are now being exposed,” the host added.

Bigflo and Oli reveal they underwent therapy together to better understand each other

The same realization hit Oli, who has no problem admitting that “their relationship has not always been smooth sailing.” “There were many times when we didn’t agree, many tastes that have been developed and refined on each of our sides, so it’s also an update of things,” he explains. To better handle these differences, the brothers admit to seeking the help of a specialist. “We went to see someone to revisit some professional events and learn to separate them in our personal sensitivity, revisit childhood memories, understand that the other did not experience it the same way,” he said. “So, learning not to blame the other for their actions, understanding our differences,” Bigflo added. “It’s even a bit strange, isn’t it? Who does that in real life?” he added with a smile.

Therapy turned out to be beneficial for both brothers. “It stirred things up, so we are a bit out of our comfort zone,” Oli acknowledges. And his brother specifies: “Honestly, it was horrible. It was Oli’s idea. He had to drag me there. We’re not the kind of brothers who sit around a coffee table and open up. We’re not very communicative.”

Bigflo opens up about his burnout and admits being tough on his brother Oli

In an interview for “Oui Hustle” on YouTube, Bigflo spoke candidly about his burnout. A mentally challenging period that led him to take it out on his brother. “I spoke poorly, I was harsh, and it was especially hard to live through that period,” he confessed. “For a year, I was always in a bad mood, forcing myself to do things, but you should never do that […] I crashed and burned.” Thankfully, things are better now, and thanks to their therapy, the two brothers now know how to communicate and listen to each other better.
