A few hours after the failure of negotiations between Iran and the United States, President Donald Trump announced on Sunday, April 12 on his social network Truth that the American military would “block all boats trying to enter or exit the Strait of Hormuz.”
A blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Seeing that Iran had no intention of giving up control of this strategic maritime passage for oil and gas delivery, Donald Trump announced on Sunday, April 12 that his army would block the area.
“Iran had promised to open the Strait of Hormuz, but it knowingly broke its promise. It is a source of anxiety, upheaval, and suffering for many people and countries around the world,” declared the American president on his social network Truth.
“Starting now, the American navy, the best in the world, will begin the process of BLOCKING all ships that would try to enter or exit the Strait of Hormuz.”
Two destroyers sailed in the strait on Saturday
The day before, the American president had already stated that the United States had started “the process of blocking the Strait of Hormuz,” but Tehran had denied these statements. Washington had also announced the passage of two destroyers of the US Navy to show that the passage was no longer impassable.
Despite this, 800 merchant ships remain blocked in the area and only about fifteen ships have passed through this point of passage since the ceasefire agreement of April 8.
