“Iran had promised to open the Strait of Hormuz, but it knowingly broke its word. It is a source of anxiety, upheaval, and suffering for many people and countries around the world,” declared the American president on his social network Truth.
“From now on, the American navy, the best in the world, will begin the process of BLOCKING all ships attempting to enter or exit the Strait of Hormuz.”
Two destroyers sailed in the strait on Saturday
The day before, the American president had already stated that the United States had started “the process of blocking the Strait of Hormuz”, but Tehran had denied these statements. Washington had also announced the passage of two destroyers from the US Navy to show that the passage was no longer impassable.
For now, 800 merchant ships are still blocked in the area, and only about fifteen boats have passed through this checkpoint since the ceasefire agreement on April 8th.
