Trump’s Court Nominees Challenge Him

At the bowling alley, the “corner pin” is a nightmare for players: when only one pin is left standing in the corner of the lane. Recently, Donald Trump has become familiar with this feeling. The man who has disrupted all American institutions is starting to bump up against the last barrier that could possibly resist his wrath: the Supreme Court of the United States.

This may not have been the outcome he was expecting. Since Ronald Reagan, no other president has had the opportunity to influence this sacred temple of democracy by appointing three judges.

However, two of them, Neil Gorsuch and Amy Coney Barrett, have directly opposed the man who appointed them by invalidating a large portion of the tariffs implemented by his Administration a year ago. The reasoning behind this decision was signed by John G. Roberts Jr., the 17th president of the Supreme Court.
