Anaïs Briec, Le Télégramme Brest
It must be said, the pitch of “The Drama” is effective. A couple on the verge of getting married plays a truth-telling game and confesses the worst things they have ever done in their lives. Suddenly, everything falters. What could the future bride have said to make everything crumble?
Piqued curiosity often translates into gained points, and for the studio A24, behind the film it’s almost a trademark. Don’t be fooled by the sugary rom-com image its poster suggests, it quickly turns dramatically bitter.
Grinning Humor…
Zendaya and Robert Pattinson portray a couple who, despite thinking they know each other perfectly, are faced with their limits. Beneath loving and caring gazes arise questioning and discomfort. What would you have done in their shoes?
The tension is palpable on screen, but also in the theater where time quickly drags as the imposed philosophical paths are grasped: are our thoughts condemnable? Does our past define our present? Grinning humor and impending collapse, is “The Drama” really as it seems? It’s up to you to decide.
