Royan Atlantique Volley-Ball, on track for Ligue A
After defeating former leader Martigues on their turf, the team coached by Gregory Alleix has five matches left to secure a spot in Ligue A. It seems like things are looking up for them. Everyone within and around the club is gearing up for what could be a major milestone. Royan Atlantique at the highest professional level would be unprecedented and worth the risk. According to player-president David Guelle, such a journey is feasible.
In terms of finances, the current budget stands at 930,000 euros. While it ranks high among Ligue B teams, it may not be sufficient as the average club budget hovers around 1.4 million euros. Royan Atlantique Volley-Ball will need new private partners and increased public assistance to thrive. David Guelle suggests starting with a minimum budget of 1.3 million euros to secure survival in the first year, aiming ideally for 1.5 million euros.
There are plans to transition the club from an association to a simplified joint-stock company (SAS) to attract new interested parties for capital entry.
From the perspective of Royan town hall, Mayor Patrick Marengo has tasked sports deputy Florence Labeyrie with exploring different scenarios in case of promotion. The community is much more prepared now compared to when urgent 80,000 euro aid was needed at the start of the season to avoid relegation.
In 2025, Royan City unlocked 230,000 euros in subsidies, including a one-off 40,000 euro grant. The Agglomeration also granted 200,000 euros for the 2025-2026 season, covering two budget cycles for general interest tasks. The club has also reconnected with the Department in hopes of fruitful collaboration.
Passion for the team is growing, evidenced by packed stands at Espace Cordouan. David Guelle is pleased with the facilities and anticipates expanding to accommodate 1,500 spectators without structural changes, pending further success.
The success of RAVB also stems from a strong merchandising strategy, symbolized by the Pirates brand and its elite-level products. Plans include introducing tokens for purchases at the bar and potential partnerships with restaurants and bars. Limited edition series featuring player designs are in the pipeline.
A solid recruitment strategy will also be crucial for success, combining young talent with seasoned Ligue A players like Victor Socié from Ajaccio. Coach Gregory Alleix will hand over the reins to Guillaume Recurt, signaling the progress towards the big leap.
