With its 20,000 square meters of lawn and friendly atmosphere, the open-air cinema at La Villette is gearing up to offer a sparkling cinematic rendezvous for this 2026 edition. For over a month, from July 22 to August 16, several short films, movies, and shows will be screened on the famous giant screen on the Triangle lawn.
Comfortably seated in a deck chair or on a blanket, under the stars or around a countryside picnic, you can (re)discover masterpieces of cinema, completely free! A longstanding tradition that shows that the event, celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, has lost none of its significance. While access is free (subject to availability), deck chairs can be reserved online on the La Villette website. It is strongly recommended to bring blankets and cushions for added comfort, as even in summer, the evening breeze can be felt.
A nature and ecological theme
As for the programming, a first selection already sets the tone. After exploring music and dance last year, this edition delves into the forest as a place of contemplation, a symbol, character in its own right, and a conveyer of ecological messages. The theme reflects the recent extension of the park devoted to biodiversity and animals on 15,000 square meters, providing an ideal setting to educate both young and old while enjoying captivating films.
A promising first film selection
At 6 pm, family sessions feature the magnificent Japanese animated film, “Les Enfants loups, Ame et Yuki” by Mamoru Hosoda, “Arrietty, le petit monde des chapardeurs” by Hiromasa Yonebayashi, and the beautiful French film “Zarafa” by Rémi Bezançon and Jean-Christophe Lie.
By 9 pm, the screenings take on a more adult turn with “Le Règne animal” by Thomas Cailley, “Miséricorde” by Alain Guiraudie, “Le Nouveau Monde” by Terrence Malick, and “Okja” by Bong Joon-ho. A promising and eclectic first announcement while awaiting a more extensive program in the coming weeks, hopefully with better gender representation.
