Moment clé of the Global Industrie exhibition, the Blue Day on March 31 organized by the French Fab highlighted the major transformations in the industrial sector, between innovation and environmental transition. On this occasion, Big Media gathered various testimonials on its set. One of the discussions focused on the industry’s response to stereotypes, with Sylvain Poulain, innovation project manager at NaTran R&I.

Through his background, Sylvain Poulain debunked the image of an outdated industry or perceived as a plan B for struggling students. The sector instead appears as a rich and diverse universe, where office, workshop, and field professions come together in modern production chains. Technical professions, such as welding or boilermaking, are now highly qualified, sought-after, and essential to the economy.

The industry also offers real opportunities for progression. It is possible to start in the field and advance to positions of responsibility, thanks to skills development and internal evolution. Contrary to common beliefs, industrial professions require constant analysis, especially to ensure safety, integrate automation, and leverage technologies such as artificial intelligence.

Digital transition is already well underway. Digitalization and the use of mobile tools make daily tasks easier for teams, while professions are shifting towards more system control and programming. In the energy sector, activities go beyond technical intervention to include network optimization and collaboration with local authorities.

Finally, the industry is also changing in its organization. Hierarchical models are giving way to more autonomy, intergenerational transmission, and increased recognition of soft skills. The sector is gradually feminizing and moving towards renewable energies, providing younger generations with a concrete platform to tackle technological and ecological challenges in the future.
