Long considered as “old people’s music,” rock is making a comeback thanks to young promising artists who have decided to sing in the language of Bashung.
It has been declared dead hundreds of times since its birth. The doom-mongers have always predicted that rock, this musical form born in the middle of the 20th century, would not last. However, the devil’s music is resilient. “Rock’n’roll will never die,” sang Neil Young as early as 1978, advocating for the permanence of this art. “Rock’n’roll is dead,” replied Lenny Kravitz twenty years later. In the 1990s, the emergence of DJs almost put an end to the age-old guitar-bass-drums formula. More synthesizers were selling than electric guitars in stores at that time. TV host Ariel Wizman vowed on television that organic music was finished, machines would definitively replace humans. Yet, at a time when artificial intelligence threatens to eliminate jobs, the precarious profession of rock star seems to have a bright future ahead.
