On April 8, 2026 at 7:02 PM, a unique pilot project is taking shape at the Saint-Clément high school in Cudos, Gironde. The school director, Anne Ciria, has received approval from the Ministries of National Education and the Armed Forces. Therefore, starting from the next school year in September 2026, third year students at the vocational high school, both girls and boys, will be able to choose a new option with the official opening of a Defense class at Saint-Clément high school.

A three-year partnership between Saint-Clément and the army

In the presence of the local military delegate, Lieutenant-Colonel Pascal Montlaur (Air Force), at the Captieux shooting range for the Mont-de-Marsan base 118, a representative of the board of directors in the person of Stéphane Derivry, the relevant teaching team (Laurent Soulard, Frédéric Dartial, Jonathan Ploux) and director Anne Ciria signed a convention to formalize a three-year partnership between the institution, the Ministries of Defense and National Education.

The Defense class, a civic commitment

A Defense class is an educational program implemented in middle schools or high schools to sensitize students to defense issues, national security, and citizenship.

It is based on a partnership between a school and a military unit or defense organization.

The objectives are multiple:

  • Raise awareness of republican values and national cohesion.
  • Encourage exploration of defense and security careers.
  • Work on interdisciplinary projects.

Students participating in a Defense class engage in various enriching activities. This provides the opportunity to discover the wide range of accessible professions.

The benefits for students include developing teamwork, communication, and leadership skills, preparing for possible careers in defense, security, or public service. “A Defense class is a unique opportunity for students to immerse themselves in republican values, better understand defense issues, and explore enriching career prospects,” it is mentioned.

For the Cudos school, which has a boarding school, the future looks promising.
