Iran has announced, in the night from Tuesday 7 to Wednesday 8 April, its participation in negotiations with the United States to end the war. These discussions will take place starting Friday in Islamabad, Pakistan, and will last two weeks. Tehran’s announcement comes after US President Donald Trump declared he would suspend his threat of massive bombings against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

“It has been decided at the highest level that Iran will engage in negotiations with the American side in Islamabad for a period of two weeks,” stated the Supreme National Security Council. “It is specified that this does not mean the end of the war, and Iran will only accept the cessation of hostilities once the negotiations have concluded,” the statement added, emphasizing that these two weeks could be extended “in agreement with both parties.”

Simultaneously, the Iranian Foreign Affairs Minister stated in a communication that it will be possible to safely cross the Strait of Hormuz during the two weeks of negotiations, “thanks to coordination with the Iranian armed forces and taking into account technical limitations.”
