Olympique de Marseille is getting a fresh look… at least when it comes to the logo. The Phocaean club unveiled its new graphic identity on Wednesday. This new logo, which will appear on the jerseys of OM players starting next season, is the result of “almost 24 months of work,” said interim president of OM, Alban Juster, during its presentation in Marseille.

“This is an important moment in OM’s history,” he added, noting that the current logo dates back to 2004. “It’s a new visual identity rooted in Marseille’s history and identity, a bridge between the past and the future,” he further stated during an event attended by all OM players, coach Habib Beye, and some former greats of the club, such as Basile Boli and Mamadou Niang.

“It had to be done because the world has changed.”

Visually, the new logo is simpler than the previous one, featuring an “M” enclosed in a double circle representing the “O,” and a blue referred to by the club as “bleu Marseille,” darker than the light blue of the previous logo. “We had the last logo for over 20 years. This one, we’ll have it for a few years and it will live on through collections and results, creating its own story,” stated Mr. Juster, who took over as president after Pablo Longoria’s departure, who initiated the reflection on this new logo.

“After 22 years, it had to be done because the world has changed,” expressed Alessandro Antonello, the general manager of the Marseille club. “When the old logo was designed, there were no smartphones, we were not in the digital world but in the physical world. Today, everything is digital. With this logo, we are ready for the challenges of the future,” added the Italian executive.
