Donald Trump launched on Tuesday, April 7 on his Truth Social platform that “an entire civilization will die this [Tuesday] evening”, just hours before the expiration of his ultimatum against Iran that evening (8 PM in the United States, 2 AM in France) to obtain the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. “I don’t want it to happen, but it will probably be the case,” added Donald Trump.

In the aftermath, the American vice-president remained more optimistic, stating that “many negotiations” still had to take place on Tuesday. While in Budapest, Hungary, J.D. Vance claimed that the United States had already “largely achieved their military objectives” in Iran. But according to him, if the war were to continue, Iranian leaders “must know that we have tools in our arsenal that, until now, we have not decided to use”. Donald Trump “can decide to use them, and he will decide to use them if the Iranians do not change their behavior,” he added.

“Today, the President of the United States used not only deeply irresponsible language, but also totally alarming,” reacted Iranian ambassador to the UN on Tuesday before the Security Council meeting in New York. According to Amir Saeid Iravani, Donald Trump has thus openly revealed his intention to commit war crimes and crimes against humanity.

“We have so far shown great restraint in the spirit of good neighborliness, but these reservations are now lifted (…) If the American terrorist army crosses the red lines, our response will extend beyond the region,” also warned the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.

The American head of state is “alone” in knowing “what he is going to do” in Iran, also affirmed his spokesperson, Karoline Leavitt. On Monday, the American president had stated to be ready to destroy Iran “entirely (…) in one night” if the ultimatum he set for the Islamic Republic expires without results. According to him, the United States can destroy the country’s bridges and power plants “in four hours”.
