President Trump is open to a ceasefire if Iran completely reopens the Strait of Hormuz. During the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, April 8, Donald Trump announced a two-week delay in his threat to attack Iran, stating that he received a “viable” ten-point plan from Tehran. The US president specified that he was ready for a ceasefire if Iran fully reopened the vital Strait of Hormuz.

Following discussions with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Marshal Asim Munir, Trump agreed to suspend military intervention against Iran for a period of two weeks if Iran accepted the “total, immediate, and secure opening” of the Strait of Hormuz. This decision was announced on Trump’s Truth Social platform just over an hour before his ultimatum expired.

Earlier in the day, the Republican leader had warned of eradicating “an entire civilization” if Iran did not unblock the Strait of Hormuz.

The latest ultimatum issued by Donald Trump to Iran, extending the deadline several times, set a 20:00 Washington time (midnight GMT) deadline for Tehran to reopen the strategic maritime passage through which 20% of the world’s oil passed before the war.

“This will be a mutual CEASEFIRE,” added Mr. Trump, who claimed that the US had already achieved and surpassed all military goals since the American-Israeli strikes on February 28.

He also mentioned “very advanced” discussions for a “long-term” peace agreement with Iran, highlighting Iran’s submission of a “viable” ten-point proposal that serves as a basis for negotiation.
