The MeM meeting by CGEM & GITEX 2026 reflects the strategic role of the diaspora in the Moroccan economy and digital sector.
On the sidelines of GITEX Africa 2026, MeM by CGEM, the 13th regional branch of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM) dedicated to Moroccan entrepreneurs and high-potential individuals around the world, held its 4th annual meeting focusing on Moroccan Talents Worldwide.
Organized in partnership with the Ministry of Investment, Convergence, and Policy Evaluation and the Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development (AMDIE), this edition highlighted the crucial role of the diaspora in the economic and technological development of the Kingdom. The event brought together high-level institutional and economic stakeholders with the aim of fostering diaspora expertise and strengthening synergies with the national ecosystem, in line with the High Solicitude of His Majesty King Mohammed VI towards Moroccans Worldwide.
The diaspora, an economic transformation engine
During the opening, Karim Zidane, Minister Delegate in charge of Investment, explained that Moroccans worldwide represent a unique asset, harboring skills, networks, and a strong willingness to contribute to the Kingdom’s development. “Supporting the diaspora is a priority to transform investment intentions into concrete, rapid, and secure projects,” he emphasized. Specific initiatives have been deployed through Regional Investment Centers and AMDIE, while structural reforms aim to sustainably improve the business climate.
Chakib Alj, President of CGEM, highlighted the role of MeM by CGEM in mobilizing and promoting Moroccan talents internationally. He underscored the importance of a competitive national technological ecosystem open to the world, where the diaspora serves as a lever for innovation, skills transfer, and growth acceleration. “In a context marked by transformations driven by artificial intelligence, it is essential to combine expertise, both in Morocco and internationally, to position the Kingdom in the digital economy of the future,” he added.
AMDIE reiterated its commitment to the diaspora by regularly organizing dedicated meetings for Moroccans Worldwide to facilitate their investment procedures and encourage their involvement in national economic dynamics. The Agency works to create tangible connections between diaspora talents and investment opportunities in Morocco, aiming for lasting impact.
The meeting included an interactive session moderated by Karim Amor, President of MeM by CGEM, focusing on identifying and overcoming obstacles faced by diaspora investors. Discussions revolved around improving the business climate, enhancing startup support, and adapting financing mechanisms. Special emphasis was placed on the role of financing and the academic ecosystem in fostering highly potential innovative projects.
The session also mapped out the journey of diaspora entrepreneurs through dedicated mechanisms, while giving central importance to the “Ladies MeM” initiatives, true showcases of female leadership on a global scale.
