It was probably his destiny. A regular player won $158,585 in the lottery, just under $140,000, in Ohio. The resident of Painesville went to buy tickets with the hope of winning a nice sum on March 14. He asked the seller for five $1 tickets and one $5 ticket. But the cashier made a mistake and gave him a $10 ticket instead.
Instead of informing the employee of his mistake, the man decided to keep it and tucked it into his pocket. That evening, he tried his luck and scratched it. “To his great surprise, he found that he had the ten correct numbers. When he announced it to his wife, she didn’t believe him. Even after noticing the congratulations message on the ticket, they remained amazed,” Ohio lottery said in an official statement.
100,000 in his pocket
The player was very lucky. Thanks to the $10 ticket, he won the jackpot. This would not have been the case with the others. “If he had bought the $1 and $5 tickets as planned, he would have only won 10% or 50% of the jackpot, respectively,” explained the lottery. After deducting state and federal taxes, he will receive $116,163.51.
A nice sum that will allow him to fulfill some dreams. The winner has already announced that he wants to pay some bills, invest, and make donations to his grandsons.
