Professor Frédérick Gagnon, from the Department of Political Science and holder of the Raoul-Dandurand Chair in Strategic and Diplomatic Studies, will receive the Merit Award in the Outreach category on April 29th.

A political analyst present in major media outlets, a prolific author, and a sought-after speaker, Frédérick Gagnon stands out for his remarkable ability to simplify geopolitical issues and engage the academic world with civil society. The reports produced by the Observatoire sur les États-Unis and the Observatoire des conflits multidimensionnels, which he leads, are widely covered by the media and consulted by governmental, diplomatic, and economic actors. The Electoral Guides that he coordinates during the American presidential elections are reference tools cited in the media and used by many teachers and journalists. Therefore, his impact extends well beyond the academic sphere.

This role as a catalyst for research and knowledge dissemination directly contributes to UQAM’s positioning as a leading university in the analysis of international issues, confirming the institution’s place in societal debates and decision-making circles.

His outreach also extends to involvement in national and international networks, including as a Global Fellow at the Wilson Center in Washington and as an associate member of the Institute of International and Strategic Relations in Paris.

Frédérick Gagnon also leads research projects that involve young researchers, thus helping to train a committed and visible new generation in the public space. He also participates in numerous conferences in colleges, high schools, and public libraries. His ability to adapt his discourse to diverse audiences, stimulate critical thinking, and engage with citizens on contemporary issues make him an ideal ambassador of UQAM’s values: accessibility, rigor, openness, and social commitment.

The Merit Awards ceremony will take place on April 29th at the Espace CNM x Adisq on Saint-Denis Street, in the presence of the laureates and their families.
