A mother living in Santa Ana, California has been suspected of willingly abandoning her 4-year-old daughter and traveling to Mexico in March. The mother had asked her roommate to look after the child for a few hours and never returned. The woman, age 21, explained to her roommate that she needed to visit her brother near Tijuana, Mexico for just one day, but she left with relatives in a car. Authorities have had difficulty reaching out to the brother and mother about the situation.
Due to the lack of cooperation from the family members, the child has been placed in the care of child protective services. Police find the mother’s sudden disappearance unusual as she had a routine of working and always having someone watch her daughter, never leaving for more than a few days. The police are treating the case as a voluntary abandonment.
