“Dimanche en politique” focuses on intercommunalities. On March 15 and 22, voters not only elected mayors, but also community advisors. These advisors are currently electing the presidents of intercommunalities for the next 6 years. Despite being lesser-known, these elections are essential for the daily lives of residents. Intercommunalities handle key local strategic competences such as the economy, transportation, ecological transition, culture, sports, and early childhood. The goal for municipalities is to come together. The Hauts-de-France region has 87 intercommunalities out of the 1252 in France. Their budget is larger than that of the town halls, reaching 66 billion euros in 2024. Through our guests, we will explore the usefulness of these intercommunalities as the NOTRe law aimed to simplify the territorial structure. What competences do they have? What is left for the town halls? How effective are they? What about taxation? What are the strengths in the Hauts-de-France region?
