There are spaces in Paris that remain off-limits to the public. One such place is the column room under the Grande Arche de La Défense. Until April 26th, the space is being transformed into a museum. With audio guides on our ears and flashlights in hand, in small groups and in darkness, we follow the exhibition as if we were strolling under the ocean. “We chose this space because it is dark, cold, and conducive to a somewhat strange, somewhat different journey from visual codes and exhibitions,” explains Sara Dufour, one of the exhibition curators. One of the desires was to break free from the white walls of traditional museums.
Let’s end with a meditation
In our headphones, Emily Loizeau’s voice lulls us and takes us on a journey between reality and fiction. As we pass through the rooms, we quickly forget that above our heads, La Défense is bustling. “This exhibition unfolds in four main chapters, which are four universes created by the artists and lead us to meet real or imaginary aquatic beings that allow us to exist,” judges the exhibition curator. For forty minutes, we will hear the sound of fish hearts, see the effects of pollution, and visit a sacred cave imagined by Shivay La Multiple, dedicated to Yemayá, mother goddess of the oceans. The museum walk ends with a meditation and a moment of reflection.
