Lyon still dropping points. The OL failed to win against Angers on Sunday (0-0) and recorded their ninth match without a victory in all competitions. A win would have seen Lyon climb to a podium position before the evening clash between Monaco and Marseille.

Lyon remains stuck in 5th place with 48 points, under threat from Monaco. Meanwhile, for Angers (12th), the 33rd point of the season is valuable as they aim for safety, which is close but not yet secured.

Tolisso and Sulc Disappoint

The international break was not restful for Lyon’s players, who hoped to end their five-match winless run, including three losses in Ligue 1 and elimination in the Europa League against Celta Vigo.

Without inspiration or sharpness, Lyon struggled against Angers, who were organized and disciplined but lacked ambition. Facing an opponent they had beaten eleven times in twelve previous encounters and who had only taken three points in the last six matchdays, Lyon should have performed better.

Only Afonso Moreira on the left brought movement and energy, highlighting the contrast with Endrick who was contained by the Angers defenders. The physical state of Paulo Fonseca’s players was evident, with Peter Sulc and Corentin Tolisso forced off with injuries.

Uncertain End to the Match

Coaching decisions affected the end of the game, with Angers pushing forward after Prosper Peter came on. However, this also opened up space for Lyon, who failed to capitalize on their chances.

Roman Yaremchuk and Rachid Ghezzal made positive impacts as substitutes, but Lyon struggled to create clear opportunities.

The final stretch looks tough for Lyon, with games against Paris Saint-Germain, Rennes, and Lens in the remaining six fixtures.
