The Israeli army announced on Saturday evening that it had detected a missile launch from Yemen towards Israel, specifying that its air defense systems were being activated to intercept it.
“The Israeli army identified the missile launch from Yemen towards Israeli territory, and the air defense systems are being activated to intercept the threat,” said a military statement.
The Houthi rebels in Yemen, who support Iran in the war against the United States and Israel, later claimed responsibility for the attack in a video message from their spokesperson. They claimed to have targeted “Lod Airport in the Yafa region, as well as vital and military targets of the Israeli enemy in southern occupied Palestine.”
According to their statement, “the fifth military operation was carried out with a ballistic missile with fragmentation and several drones,” and “was carried out in conjunction with the Revolutionary Guards, the Iranian army, and Hezbollah in Lebanon,” claiming that “it achieved its objectives successfully.”
The Houthis also declared that they would continue their military operations “in the framework of the axis of jihad and resistance until victory.”
This is the fifth missile launch from Yemen since the beginning of the war triggered at the end of February by an Israeli-American offensive against Iran.
The Houthi rebels, who had previously supported the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas against Israel in Gaza, entered into war last week.
