A workshop was attended by many researchers, managers, and students from Quy Nhon University.
A scientific conference on the “Documentary Heritage of Thap Thap Pagoda: Current State, Value, and Perspectives” was held on the morning of April 4th at Quy Nhon University.
This workshop is part of provincial scientific and technological project No. 02-05-2024, chaired by Dr. Nguyen To Lan from the Institute of Philosophy. The project aims to study and propose methods for the preservation and valorization of Gia Hung Tripitaka (also known as Gia Hung Tripitaka) and woodblock prints from Thap Thap Pagoda in An Nhon Bac district, Gia Lai Province, contributing to local socio-economic development.
During the conference, discussions highlighted the importance of the Han Nom documentary heritage, particularly Buddhist texts, in preserving knowledge and spiritual life over centuries. The Thap Thap Pagoda stands out as an exceptional conservation center with a significant collection of precious Han Nom Buddhist documents.
The Gia Hung Tripitaka is a major element of Thap Thap Pagoda’s documentary heritage, comprising about 1,377 volumes in 479 collections, totaling nearly 4,826 scriptures. It is considered one of the most comprehensive collections of Chinese Buddhist scriptures in Vietnam.
The conference focused on the historical, cultural, and academic value of the Gia Hung Tripitaka in the development of Buddhism in the Southern Vietnam region of Dang Trong. The challenges facing the preservation of Thap Thap Pagoda’s documentary heritage were also acknowledged, including conservation conditions, inventory difficulties, and the need for effective digitization.
The workshop aimed to transition Thap Thap Pagoda’s documentary heritage from a state of preservation to an active resource for socio-economic development, especially cultural tourism, in Gia Lai Province.
