On May 16, 1994, Christina Marie Plante disappeared in Star Valley, a small community in the mountains near Phoenix. According to NBC, the young girl was last seen on foot near a table where her horse was located. Extensive searches took place over several weeks, involving law enforcement and many volunteers.
An active case file
The case was never closed despite the lack of new evidence. It was handed over to a specialized unit in cold cases a few years ago. “Over the years, the investigation remained active, with investigators regularly conducting new analyses of evidence and pursuing information,” the statement said.
“By using new technologies, modern investigative techniques, and a detailed examination of the case file, investigators finally made a decisive breakthrough,” the sheriff’s office clarified. Authorities confirmed that Christina Marie Plante had been found alive and that her missing person status was officially lifted.
“This case has highlighted the importance of reviewing old files and the impact of constantly evolving technologies in providing long-awaited answers to families and communities,” the statement emphasized. The victim is now 45 years old.
