91 ans, deux prothèses de hanche et prof de sport ! La reconversion de la Bretonne Maryvonne fascine

At 91 years old, Maryvonne Simonneaux defies all statistics with a contagious smile. A former social worker living in Morbihan, between Moustoir-Ac and Locminé, this Breton woman with an extraordinary journey impresses with her inexhaustible vitality. Despite two hip prostheses, the dynamic nonagenarian puts on her sportswear several times a week to take on her favorite role: that of a voluntary gym teacher. A true life lesson that is truly admirable!

Transmitting her love for physical activity has become her daily driving force. Speaking to Franceinfo, the athlete explains that her goal is to “contribute to people feeling better in their minds and bodies.” Voluntarily, Maryvonne conducts two intense hour-long weekly sessions for an audience with an average age of around 75. The program includes joint unlocking, core strengthening, and thigh work. She adapts her expertise and doesn’t hesitate to challenge stereotypes. “Gym for the elderly is a bit special. Of course, we have flabby muscles, but these are people capable of developing their musculature,” she assures Franceinfo. This view is fully shared in Actu.fr: “People need to maintain flexibility. Gymnastics is an extraordinary source of energy.”

However, this passion for sports was not always a given. “I started gym at around 45 years old, with a lady from Bignan, when my four children became independent,” she reveals to Actu.fr. Later, after graduating, she managed to overcome major surgeries to reunite with her faithful students twenty years ago. Today, her personal commitment remains total. “I do about 5 hours of gym work per week,” she confesses to the local media, in addition to her swimming sessions at the pool.

During her sessions, benevolence reigns supreme. The instructor constantly adapts and reassures: “It’s personal work, everyone goes at their own pace.” Her secret to staying young lies primarily in moderation in eating, good genetics, and an insatiable thirst for human connection. It’s a bright philosophy that she summarizes with a lot of poetry in Actu.fr: “The more we share this energy, the more we spend it, the more it grows, it’s wonderful!”
