President Donald Trump on Thursday fired his Attorney General Pam Bondi, a loyal ally criticized for her handling of the Epstein cases, announcing her departure to the private sector.
Pam Bondi’s interim will be filled by the number 2 person at the Department of Justice, Todd Blanche, former personal lawyer of Donald Trump, the American president added on his Truth social network, praising the outgoing minister’s actions against crime. Several American media outlets, including CNN and Fox News, had previously reported on this dismissal.
Donald Trump blames Pam Bondi for her handling of the case of sexual criminal Jeffrey Epstein and for not having indicted enough personalities that he considers personal enemies, CNN reports. Pam Bondi, former attorney general of Florida (southeast), distinguished herself in this role by unconditionally defending the actions of the Republican president, especially during tumultuous hearings with Democratic lawmakers in Congress.
In February, several Democratic lawmakers accused her of “covering up” the Epstein affair by not following the law requiring the Trump administration to fully disclose this politically explosive case. “You don’t show much interest in the victims, Madam Attorney General, whether it’s the victims of the Epstein exploitation network or the deadly government violence against American citizens in Minneapolis,” Jamie Raskin, the lead Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, told her.
He specifically referred to two protesters against immigration police (ICE) killed in January by federal officers.
