Apple celebrated its 50th anniversary on Wednesday, April 1, highlighting its innovations over the past five decades and praising its “different thinking” in its press release. But in the race for artificial intelligence, is the tech giant missing out on opportunities?

The American multinational commemorated its 50th year and applauded its five decades of “different thinking” and innovations in a press release on its website. With three billion iPhones sold since 2007, Apple combines “powerful technologies with intuitive design.” Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak revolutionized the way technology was used in the 1970s, building a technological empire. Apple is known for forward-thinking, recalling its history and flagship products like the Mac, iPhone, Apple Watch, and iPad.

Apple also transformed the music market with the iPod and popularized tablets with the iPad. The Apple Watch quickly became a top-selling smartwatch. Since 2007, Apple has generated over $2.3 trillion in revenue. The iPhone has become the most successful consumer electronics product, symbolizing global fashion and social status.

In a letter published for the company’s anniversary, CEO Tim Cook envisions a future focused on innovation, privacy, accessibility, and environmental sustainability. However, Apple seems to be lagging behind in artificial intelligence compared to its competitors. Investors are concerned about Apple’s slow progress in AI, especially with the delayed Siri update. Apple admitted internally that its AI efforts were “embarrassing” and turned to Google and OpenAI for assistance.

Unlike its competitors, Apple has not heavily invested in AI technology. Despite a decrease in AI investment in 2025, Apple’s focus on user data protection and quality hardware may remain a significant advantage. Future products like connected glasses and the Vision Pro headset could compete with Meta, showcasing Apple’s ability to create user-friendly products.

Recently, OpenAI’s CEO announced plans to integrate AI seamlessly into daily life, with experts like Jony Ive joining the team. This initiative, considered a significant advancement in technology, aims to revolutionize interaction with AI beyond screens.
