In Montpellier, several cultural events are taking place at the beginning of April, featuring music, contemporary art, and street art. The Al Andalus festival celebrates its 10th anniversary by honoring Algeria, while artist JonOne showcases an exclusive exhibition in the historic center. Additionally, the mini-festival Klang and the Tondo exhibition complete a diverse and rich program.
For its 10th anniversary, the Al Andalus festival aims to transmit Arabo-Judeo-Andalusian culture in contemporary forms, with a focus on Algeria. The program includes conferences, workshops, exhibitions, and concerts. Some events are already sold out, but there are still tickets available for performances by Djam & Timoh, Yasmine Rabet, and Manal Gherbi at Opera Comedie.
From Wednesday, April 1, to Saturday, April 11, at various locations in Montpellier and the surrounding area. For the program, check out the festival’s Facebook page @festivalalandalus.
Renowned for his street art, JonOne, whose works were exhibited two years ago at “Parcelle 473,” now presents a unique exhibition and sale in the city’s historic center. The exhibition features iconic pieces and recent creations, providing an immersive experience in his colorful world, blending lyrical abstraction and graffiti culture. Children’s workshops and meetings are also scheduled.
From Thursday, April 2, to Saturday, May 2, at 1 Rue Voltaire, Montpellier. Free admission.
Klang is not just a noise but also a mini-festival dedicated to electroacoustic music. Two composers will showcase their work at this 11th edition – Benjamin Thigpen creating music for speakers and Natasha Barrett presenting her recent acousmatic compositions. Other artists will perform their pieces as well.
At Theatre de la Vignette, Avenue du Val de Montferrand, Montpellier. Ticket prices range from 5 to 20 euros.
Thirteen artists explore the tondo shape (artwork on a round canvas) from Saturday, April 4, to Saturday, April 30, at the Artel Gallery (16 Rue Leenhardt, Montpellier). The exhibition opens with a vernissage on April 9 at 6 pm.
