Prime Minister Mark Carney denounced on Tuesday the “illegal invasion” by Israel into Lebanon, lamenting a violation of “its sovereignty and integrity”.

Practically, Lebanon’s government has banned Hezbollah, taken measures, attempts to fight against Hezbollah, its terrorist activities, and threats against Israel, and that is the justification invoked for this invasion, so we condemn it, added the Canadian leader in a press conference.

Mr. Carney’s comments echo several statements from European countries and the United Nations denouncing violence in Lebanon.

The UN’s head of humanitarian operations, Tom Fletcher, expressed concern Tuesday about the possible creation of a new “occupied territory” in the Middle East, this time in Lebanon.

Ten European countries and the European Union have also called for ensuring the security and safety of the UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon, three of whose soldiers were killed in recent days.

Lebanon was drawn into the war between Israel and the United States on one hand and Iran on the other by an attack on March 2 by the Islamist movement Hezbollah against Israel in retaliation for the death of the Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei on the first day of the conflict.

Since then, massive Israeli strikes on the Cedar Country have killed over 1200 people and injured more than 3600, according to the latest Ministry of Health report.

The Israeli army, meanwhile, claims to have eliminated 850 terrorists in Lebanon.
