Marine Le Pen, the leader of the National Rally, stated in an interview with Le Parisien on Tuesday, March 31 that she is not aiming for the Prime Minister position if she cannot run in the presidential election because she is not “looking for a consolation prize”. She reiterated, “It is established between Jordan (Bardella) and me that, if the justice system does not prevent me, I will be the presidential candidate and he will be my Prime Minister,” brushing aside recent polls favoring the young RN president.
“I personally see very few differences in these polls. The main thing is that the RN candidate, whoever it may be, remains extremely high in the first round. And for now, there is little risk of absence in the second round,” she estimated. Two recent polls by the Elabe and Odoxa institutes show the RN candidate comfortably leading in the first round but potentially losing to former Prime Minister Edouard Philippe in the second round.
The RN leader will find out on July 7th if the justice system allows her to run in the upcoming presidential election scheduled for April or May 2027. She is currently facing a ban due to a first instance judgment in the case of European parliamentary assistants from the National Front. Marine Le Pen also downplayed any differences with Jordan Bardella, who appears more open to forming alliances with right-wing parties. “If we look at the scenario where I could be a presidential candidate and he could be Prime Minister, he is perfectly in his role by seeking to broaden a majority for which, by definition, he would have responsibility,” she stated.
