The US army is launching a marketplace for military drones and components, in cooperation with Amazon Web Services and the US Army cloud technology agency. This marketplace aims to help military units, government partners, and allied countries acquire drones more efficiently. The Ukrainian army already has similar platforms, such as the Brave1 Market and the DOT-Chain Defense.
The US sees this new marketplace as a major breakthrough in drone acquisition, enabling better comparison of features and easier communication with manufacturers. It marks a shift from traditional, slower acquisition methods and is part of the US Army’s goal to modernize its procurement process.
By offering a wider range of capabilities and expanding the industrial base, the US hopes to foster innovation and meet new demands on the battlefield. The focus is on equipping soldiers with the unmanned technologies they need to maintain their superiority in complex battlefields.
Rodney David, the manager of the Business Aviation Capacity Program, believes that this dynamic and competitive environment will not only provide drones but also offer versatile and advanced aerial capabilities to give US forces a decisive edge in multi-domain operations.
