BMW iX3 40 (2026) Summary:

– Single 320 hp and 500 Nm motor (rear-wheel drive) – 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds – Small 82.6 kWh battery (usable), WLTP range of 635 km – Up to 300 kW fast charging (DC), 10 to 80% in 21 minutes – AC charging up to 11 kW as standard (22 kW optional) – Available for order (in dealerships) from April 1st – Starting from €61,950 – Deliveries from summer 2026

To kick off its Neue Klasse 2.0, BMW introduced the powerful and technologically advanced SUV iX3 50 xDrive. However, it was clear from the start that more reasonable versions would be added to the lineup, which is confirmed with the new BMW iX3 40. This model features a smaller battery, rear-wheel drive, and more modest performance, while maintaining the same level of technology.

Less Power and Range:

The iX3 40 retains the 800 V architecture specific to the Neue Klasse, but with reduced specifications compared to the “top” version. It is equipped with a single synchronous electric motor with permanent magnetism, delivering up to 320 hp and 500 Nm. This enables a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 200 km/h.

In order to power this motor, the iX3 40 has a smaller 82.6 kWh usable battery (compared to 108.7 kWh for the iX3 50 xDrive). The WLTP range is also reduced, but still offers a range of 635 km on a single charge.

Fast and Bidirectional Charging:

The iX3 40 still offers high power DC charging at up to 300 kW, allowing for a quick charge from 10 to 80% in 21 minutes. It also allows for AC charging up to 11 kW in three-phase as standard, with an optional 22 kW inverter. However, features like Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) are not yet active for Belgian customers due to regulatory constraints.

More Technology:

The BMW iX3 40 features the same design, finishing lines, and options as the higher version 50 xDrive. It includes the BMW Panoramic iDrive cockpit, a 17-inch central screen, and the option for head-up display with augmented reality.

“Heart of Joy” but No Level 4 Autonomous Driving Yet:

The base version of the iX3 includes features like the “Heart of Joy” super-brain, enhancing efficiency, stability, and dynamic driving behavior while optimizing driving aids. However, advanced autonomous driving functions like automatic lane changing or hands-free driving are not available in Belgium due to legal constraints.

Available from summer 2026, the BMW iX3 40 complements the electric SUV lineup from BMW without compromising on performance or technological features. Pricing starts at €61,950, with orders opening in dealerships from April 1st, 2026 (available online from mid-May 2026) for deliveries expected from summer 2026.
