While threatening to establish a right of passage in the Strait of Hormuz, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards have reportedly definitively approved a bill to implement this measure during a parliamentary committee. It has been over a month since the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, located in the Persian Gulf, has been at the center of international tensions.

Under normal circumstances, over 20% of the world’s oil production passes through this strait, but navigation has now become nearly impossible in this region due to the conflict between the United States and Iran since February 28, 2026. Iran has targeted American interests in the region and is using the strait as a pressure point against the US.

As the conflict enters its 32nd day, reports from media outlets such as CNN and the BBC indicate that the Iranian Revolutionary Guards have approved a bill in a parliamentary committee to establish strict regulations in the Strait of Hormuz. The regime’s plan includes security measures to protect the waterway, financial regulations for passing vessels, and a ban on US and Israeli ships.

Other countries involved in the conflict may also be affected by this ban. The Iranian parliament member, Somayeh Rafiei, previously stated that Iran could use the strait’s strategic position to sanction the West and prevent its ships from using this route.

In related news, President Donald Trump is reportedly willing to end the conflict, even if the strait remains largely closed, as fully reopening it could take several weeks. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has indicated that the strait will reopen one way or another.
