150 high school students on the same stage: a large mixed choir of 110 singers and a symphonic orchestra of 40 musicians. This ambitious cultural project between institutions was initiated by music and choral singing teachers from high schools in Rodez (Aveyron), Cahors (Lot) and Montauban (Tarn-et-Garonne) and is supported by the Regional Association for the Development of School Musical Ensembles (Ardemus), an association that promotes school music projects in the Occitanie region.
In residency in Plobsheim before their tour
As is the tradition every year, before going on tour in the Occitanie region in May, the group is perfecting their annual concert during a residency on Thursday, April 9th in the town hall of Plobsheim.
Titled “Memories of Musical Europe,” the program performed by the students offers a mosaic of works representative of various European countries: Beethoven and Verdi alongside Pink Floyd and a more contemporary repertoire of French, Spanish, and Anglo-Saxon songs.
It will begin with an original creation, an overture written by Pascal Rabatti, one of the teachers in charge of the trip. The arrangements of the performed works are all done by the teachers from the three participating high schools in the project.
Divided into three groups, the students will stay in Alsace and the Vosges mountains. “During our stay, we will certainly visit the European Parliament, but we will also explore the town of Mirecourt (Vosges), the French capital of violin-making,” said Astrid Versluys-Carles, music teacher, organist, and violinist.
“Memories of Musical Europe,” Thursday, April 9th at 8:00 p.m. at the town hall of Plobsheim. Free entry. Refreshments will be available by the Plobsheim associations during the intermission.
