Is he being pressured to start campaigning? Despite being the favorite in the polls, Edouard Philippe has every intention of taking his time. In fact, he plans to focus mainly on his agenda in the coming months in… his city of Le Havre. Since taking office as mayor in 2010, “I have a schedule that leads me to be two days elsewhere than in Le Havre and five days in Le Havre,” he detailed Monday morning on the radio show Ici Normandie. “I will continue to implement this schedule in the coming months. Then, as the political events intensify, I will dedicate more and more time to it.”
But apparently the time has not come yet. “No,” there will be no campaign launch meeting in April, confirms the Horizons candidate in the presidential election. Anyway, Edouard Philippe is convinced: “The French people really don’t want the campaign to start now.” “They just came out of a municipal campaign,” he points out. “I think they are sometimes fed up with political debates.” In fact, “it is only the press that tells me: why doesn’t the presidential campaign start now?” From now on, “the national political discussion (…) will come in due time.”
