Fans of Malcolm are eagerly awaiting the return of their cult sitcom, almost twenty years after its end. The highly anticipated sequel is coming soon to the Disney+ platform. Prior to its scheduled release on April 10th, several details have already been revealed. This includes the number of episodes, their duration, as well as the initial insights into the plot and main characters.

A short but highly anticipated sequel

The countdown is on for fans of the beloved series from the 2000s. Indeed, Malcolm is making a comeback with a new program titled “Malcolm, nothing has changed.” This sequel will be available starting on April 10th on Disney+. However, unlike the original seasons which were quite extensive, this new version adopts a shorter format. It consists of only 4 episodes, each lasting around 30 minutes. This narrative choice suggests a more condensed and rhythmic story. Therefore, the creators are focusing on efficiency rather than length. Fans will have to savor each moment, while possibly awaiting a future sequel.

As for the plot, it continues directly from the original series. At the end, Malcolm was eighteen and about to enter adulthood. Now, he is a father to a little girl named Leah. She seems to have inherited his humor and character. However, Malcolm has intentionally distanced himself from his family for over ten years. But an event will change everything. He must return to celebrate the 40th wedding anniversary of his parents, Hal and Lois. This family reunion promises chaotic and hilarious situations, especially for Leah, who is discovering her grandparents.

A cast of returns and newcomers

This sequel sees the return of many iconic faces from the original series. Frankie Muniz resumes his role as Malcolm, while Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek once again portray Hal and Lois. Additionally, Christopher Kennedy Masterson, Justin Berfield, and Emy Coligado are also present. Thus, a large part of the family is reunited for this new adventure. However, a notable absence is felt. Erik Per Sullivan, who played Dewey, is not part of this project. He remains the only main actor not to return, without an official reason clearly communicated.

To address this absence, a new actor joins the cast. Caleb Ellsworth-Clark takes on the role of Dewey in this sequel. Furthermore, new characters make their appearance to refresh the universe. Keeley Karsten plays Leah, Malcolm’s daughter, while Kiana Madeira portrays Tristan, his partner. These additions bring a different dynamic to the series. Finally, it is worth remembering that the original series ended in 2006 after 7 seasons, likely due to a drop in viewership. While awaiting this new release, fans can revisit the 151 episodes available on Disney+.
