BLITAR – The PDIP Central Board emphasized the principle of a free and active foreign policy in response to the political situation in the Middle East, as stipulated in the 1945 Constitution.
The Secretary General of the PDIP Party, Hasto Kristiyanto, declared on Sunday that the nation’s founding fathers, especially Bung Karno (the first President of Indonesia Sukarno) and Bung Hatta (the first Vice President of Indonesia Mohammad Hatta), had laid good foundations.
“Indonesian independence is a sign of freedom for the colonized peoples of Asia and Africa. That is why independence, as the right of all peoples, must be defended and cannot be revoked,” he declared in Blitar, as reported by Antara.
Hasto also added during a visit to Bung Karno’s tomb in the city of Blitar that independence should not be contradicted by the actions of a superpower against a sovereign state.
According to him, these are the principles of a free and active foreign policy, so that the Indonesian government is firmly supported by the mandate of the 1945 Constitution.
The president, he stated, has also been in contact with President Prabowo Subianto, discussing national issues and geopolitical problems. The conclusions of these discussions have also been explained, with the important point being that the nation’s leaders must unite.
Furthermore, Megawati, he added, also shared her experience with President Prabowo. Earlier, Megawati had also been invited, along with other country leaders, to meet, but at that time, President Prabowo had other events outside the region.
PDIP, he said, also has stronger suggestions on Indonesia’s foreign policy stance.
Hasto explained that Indonesian independence aimed to build global brotherhood, so that as a nation undergoing oppression, the spirit of independence was for all nations.
“The occupation of the world must therefore be eliminated because it is not in line with the principles of humanity and justice. This is what all presidents must pursue,” Hasto declared.
He added that Bung Karno’s leadership, who fought for the nation’s independence, is an example and it is hoped that it continues with a free and active foreign policy.
Meanwhile, the chairwoman of the PDIP Central Board, Megawati Soekarnoputri, visited her father Bung Karno’s tomb in the city of Blitar. Megawati was accompanied by her family and high-ranking party members.
During the visit, the group prayed together and spread flowers. Once done, the group continued their journey.
