And it’s five for Marco Bezzecchi. In the United States, the Italian secured his fifth consecutive victory in MotoGP, just like Marc Márquez and Valentino Rossi before him. But unlike his predecessors, the Aprilia rider did it by leading each of the 121 laps in the program of these races, setting a new record.
These were not the two penalty positions he received after overtaking Marc Márquez in Q2 that slowed down the Italian in his quest. Despite Pedro Acosta leading at turn 1, Bezzecchi only needed 10 corners to take the lead at the cost of a fierce battle that caused him to lose his rear wing. Nevertheless, he never let go. Undefeated since the start of the season, Marco Bezzecchi becomes the first rider to win the three opening races of a championship since Marc Márquez in 2014.
Behind him, as in Brazil, Jorge Martín secures the Aprilia 1-2. After spending a good part of the race behind Pedro Acosta, he found his way to the front at turn 1. Although he briefly closed in on his box neighbor, he never got close enough to make a move. Pedro Acosta, on the other hand, clinches the podium he was deprived of in the Sprint Race after a penalty for not respecting the tire pressure.
Disappointment for Ogura and the French
Poleman of the weekend, Fabio Di Giannantonio finishes 4th after racing on his own. Behind the Italian, there was plenty of action. Over the last few laps, Pecco Bagnaia, Enea Bastianini, and Marc Márquez battled intensely for 5th place, eventually taken by the nine-time world champion, after fending off the Tech3 rider’s attacks to the end.
This is his second-worst result at the end of a race in Austin after his 6th place in 2022. However, the number 93 had to complete a Long Lap penalty during the race, which slowed him down. Once passed by the two men, Pecco Bagnaia plummeted in the hierarchy to finish the race in 10th position.
Ai Ogura could have aimed for the podium if a mechanical issue hadn’t prevented him. Joan Mir crashed before the halfway point, continuing his series of crashes in Texas, which began during the 2023 US Grand Prix Sprint.
As for the French riders, Johann Zarco crashed on the second lap of the race, ending his hopes of scoring points after earning one in the Sprint Race. On his part, Fabio Quartararo had a tough start from 16th position. While all four Yamahas finished at the bottom, he crossed the line in 17th place, ahead of his teammate Álex Rins but behind the two Pramac riders.
