The Minister of War Pete Hegseth and Donald Trump during a cabinet meeting held on March 26 in Washington.

On Friday, Marco Rubio stated that it was possible for the United States to achieve its goals in Iran in two weeks without sending troops on the ground. However, the American administration continues to vacillate on this scenario. This is what the Washington Post reported on Saturday, March 28.

The capital’s newspaper revealed that the Pentagon is preparing for operations lasting several weeks on the ground in Iran. Such operations would not amount to a large-scale invasion of the country, as emphasized by American officials speaking anonymously, but would involve raids in Iranian territory by members of special forces and other soldiers.

One of the targets repeatedly mentioned is the stock of enriched uranium that Tehran is accused of having. According to the Washington Post, it was not clear on Saturday whether Donald Trump intended to approve all or part, or none at all, of the Pentagon’s plans. Nevertheless, Tehran is convinced of an imminent attack. “The enemy publicly sends messages of negotiation and dialogue, while secretly planning a ground offensive,” said parliament president Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf in a statement relayed by the official Irna news agency.

The Tripoli and 3500 soldiers have just arrived

The information from the American newspaper comes at a time when the United States’ stance in the Middle East war is reinforced by the arrival in the region of the amphibious assault ship Tripoli, announced on Saturday by the American military. This aircraft carrier is at the head of a naval group that includes approximately 3,500 sailors and Marines, according to the American Centcom command.

For weeks, Donald Trump has maintained a certain ambiguity about this possibility; several American media outlets have reported in recent days that the American president is considering sending at least 10,000 troops to the Middle East soon.
