With its new BRAVIA Theatre range, Sony is focusing on enhanced immersion and aims to make its ecosystem easier to handle. While Samsung has been the leader in soundbars for over 10 years, many brands are trying to stand out by offering something different. Among them is Sony, which can leverage its experience in the home cinema industry to design speakers tailored for watching movies and series.

Recently, the Japanese company unveiled its new BRAVIA Theatre range for 2026. Faced with increasing competition each year, Sony is expanding its ecosystem with two new soundbars, two new subwoofers, and a brand new pair of surround speakers. But what are its arguments for standing out against other industry giants like Sonos, Bose, Samsung, or LG? Let’s take a closer look.

Sony BRAVIA Theater Bar 5 and 7: the two standout new additions to this range? Currently, the market for soundbars is saturated, as we noted in our selection of the best models in late 2025. However, the two new models in the Sony BRAVIA Theater range, named “Bar 5” and “Bar 7”, have caught our attention for several reasons. Starting with Bar 7, which promises a “cinematic” immersion with a much simpler setup than a complete speaker kit.

Thanks to automatic calibration via the BRAVIA Connect app, as well as its compatibility with Dolby Atmos / DTS:X and IMAX Enhanced, and its 360 Spatial Sound Mapping technology, one can expect – on paper – an audio output almost comparable to a surround sound home cinema system. The most interesting aspect is the dimensions of the Sony BRAVIA Theater Bar 7 (95 cm wide), which features 9 speakers to provide a very promising immersion-to-size ratio.

On the other hand, the Sony BRAVIA Theatre Bar 5 offers a slightly more modest technical specification that should still be suitable for smaller spaces. With its included wireless subwoofer and 3.1 channel system, it should be a very good model to enhance the sound of a TV without breaking the bank.

Subwoofers, rear speakers: Sony further complements its home cinema range In addition to these new soundbars, which are the central element of a home cinema, Sony has also planned accessories to accompany them. This includes the Sub 9, a very impressive subwoofer with 2 speakers, as well as the Sub 8, which is expected to deliver 300W of power according to the manufacturer. Lastly, there are new rear speakers with the Rear 9, which feature upward-firing speakers to enhance vertical spatialization in Dolby Atmos, similar to Teufel and its Reflekt 2.

Sony has not yet disclosed pricing details, although some retailers are already displaying the prices of the Bar 5 ($399) and Bar 7 ($799). It is advisable to approach these figures with caution until the official announcement from the brand.
