“Similarities”. This Saturday, March 28, the Minister of the Interior Laurent Nuñez established a “connection” between the thwarted attack targeting the Bank of America in Paris and the war in the Middle East, noting “similarities” between this action and recent operations in other European countries claimed by a small group.
Speaking on BFMTV, the former police prefect of Paris explained that “this case reminds us of similar actions that have taken place in other European countries” like the Netherlands. “I link it to the actions in neighboring countries (…) that led to” and were followed by “claims from a small group referring to the conflict,” he said.
“Enhanced vigilance” at the highest level
On Friday night into Saturday, police arrested a man outside the Bank of America building who had placed an improvised explosive device outside the bank. The suspect was placed in custody. The National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office immediately took over the case and specified that an investigation was opened, particularly for “attempted degradation by fire or dangerous means in connection with a terrorist enterprise.”
In a post on X, Laurent Nuñez emphasized that “vigilance remains at a high level,” congratulating the police for their intervention and “mobilization” in the “current international context.”
Great job to the rapid response of a police team from the police headquarters that prevented a violent terrorist action last night in Paris. The investigation continues, under the authority of the PNAT and has been entrusted to the Judicial Police Directorate of the headquarters… https://t.co/w20kAYqpjq
