Bodø/Glimt’s trophy collection continues to grow. Having already defeated Manchester City and Atlético Madrid in recent months, the Norwegians made a huge statement on Wednesday by eliminating Inter Milan in the Champions League playoffs. This is the reigning European vice-champion they have knocked out.
After winning at home (3-1) in the first leg, the Yellow and Black team managed to overturn the Italians of Inter with a 2-1 victory in the second leg of the Champions League playoffs. This impressive feat secured Bodø/Glimt a spot in the prestigious tournament’s quarterfinals.
“This is the greatest club performance of all time by a Norwegian team,” stated Stale Solbakken, the coach of the national team.
Based in the Arctic city of Bodø, with a population of just 50,000, Bodø/Glimt has been on a remarkable journey of success since returning to the top division of Norwegian football in 2018. They have achieved remarkable results, including four championships in recent years and reaching the Europa League semi-finals last year.
The team’s success has attracted attention globally, with supporters beyond the city and country borders and merchandise sales extending to Asia. Bodø/Glimt’s strong teamwork and offensive playing style have been key to their achievements.
The team’s coach, Kjetil Knutsen, emphasized the importance of following their own path and being courageous. With a solid offensive foundation, Bodø/Glimt finished last season in second place with the best attack and defense in the league.
Confidence is now soaring within the team, with players feeling they can overcome any challenge. Jens Petter Hauge, who scored the first goal against Inter, expressed their belief in their abilities and readiness to take on the next opponent, either Manchester City or Sporting Portugal.
