The Treasury announced on Thursday, March 26, that Donald Trump’s signature will appear on American banknotes. This is a first for a sitting president.
The love story between Donald Trump and symbols continues. The signature of the American president will soon be featured on American banknotes, the Treasury announced, according to RTL. “There is no more powerful way to recognize the historical achievements of our great country and President Donald Trump than by having dollars bearing his name,” justified Finance Minister Scott Bessent, as cited in the press release.
It is the first time a sitting president of the United States has received this honor. The first $100 bills with his new signature will be printed starting in June 2026, before a technique is then used for other bills, the government press release specifies. Since 1861, the only signatures present on greenbacks have been those of the American Secretary of the Treasury and the Treasurer of the United States.
The long list of symbols featuring Donald Trump’s likeness
With this decision, the White House tenant once again leaves his mark on a symbol of the United States. On March 19, all members of a federal fine arts commission, appointed by Donald Trump, agreed to strike a gold commemorative coin bearing the president’s likeness. However, the country’s laws prohibit the image of a sitting or living president from appearing on currency, as 20 Minutes reminds us.
But that’s not all. The White House tenant has also renamed the Kennedy Center, considered a reputable cultural institution in Washington, the international airport in Palm Beach, Florida, his Arc de Triomphe, the ballroom at the White House, and even a class of warships.
