On the occasion of World Autism Awareness Day, celebrated annually on April 2, the city of Tournefeuille is mobilizing through a week of dedicated actions from March 30 to April 4. Established by the United Nations in 2007, this day aims to raise awareness about autism spectrum disorders and promote the inclusion of affected individuals in all areas of social life.

As part of this, the Municipal Sports Office plays a central role in coordinating a series of initiatives led by several associations in the municipality. The goal is to use sports as a lever for inclusion, discovery, and sharing, by opening up sports practices to all audiences, including individuals with autism.

Throughout the week, different clubs in the municipality are offering discovery sessions. On Tuesday, March 31, an aikido initiation is planned at the Quétiefs dojo. Handball and athletics associations will continue the program on Wednesday, April 1, at the gymnasium and stadium of Quétiefs, with accessible sessions from 2 pm to 4 pm. On Thursday, April 2, the symbolic day of international mobilization, the Hocklines association will offer an activity at the sports center of La Ramée leisure base, from 2 pm to 4 pm. The week will end on Saturday, April 4, with two simultaneous events: a basketball session at the Léonard de Vinci gymnasium and an initiation to capoeira at the Quétiefs neighborhood house, both scheduled from 10 am to 12 pm.

Beyond sports practice, these actions aim to raise awareness among the general public, promote encounters, and challenge preconceived ideas. In a context where many families continue to face difficulties in support, as highlighted in Autism France’s file, these local initiatives take on real meaning. They serve as a reminder that inclusion also involves concrete actions, close to the ground.
